Koingnaas is a small village or town in Namakwa District Municipality in the Northern Cape province of South Africa.
It is located about 65 km south of Kleinzee on the Atlantic Ocean.
Once a flourishing diamond-mining town – created by the De Beers mining company in the 1970’s.
Koingnaas falls under the Kamiesberg Munisipality who’s offices are in Garies.
The Kamiesberg Local Municipality is a Category B municipality in the Namakwa District and one of the smaller municipalities in the district.
Kamiesberg Local Municipality provides services to 16 small towns. They are:
Kamassies Rooifontein, Nourivier, Leliefontein, Paulshoek, Kamieskroon, Kharkams, Tweervier, Koiingnaas, Kheis, Soebatsfontein, Spoegrivier, Klipfontein,Garies, Hondeklipbaai and Lepelfontein.
During its peak Koingnaas had about 1,000 inhabitants but today there are about 200 full time citizens.
